My name is Auli’i and I’ve been working at the CCCF DMV Call Center for five months now, and it took me by surprise when I was asked to write about the purpose for the “Vision Wall” idea I came up with for my peers. In a place like this, we are not strangers to not being heard or our ideas going unnoticed, which is a thing that needs to change, and this acknowledgement is proof that they’re finally trying: “There’s always room for change”.
What brought me to create this wall of vision boards was the curriculum of the class I teach out of work called The Freedom Writers Program. I based this out of different perspectives, interest, thoughts, and a sense of freedom. Mentally through the arts of writing, this inspired me to spread inspiration and motivation not only with my class but with my coworkers and hopefully soon with the community through this article.
The vision wall is a mural of the beach and palm trees with everyone who wanted to participate. We added the individual vision boards to our joint vision wall to create one masterpiece. The vision boards etched into the scenery. Although we can’t have most of the things on the vision board (like the beach and palm trees) at this moment, we can implement what’s needed to get to that vision. The vision boards are a reminder not to lose sight of what’s needed or wanted, especially of who we are or who we are changing to be for self-growth.
