Santiam Correctional Institution (SCI) once again celebrated a successful family Christmas event on the evening of December 12, 2019. Nearly 40 adults in custody (AICs) were able to participate in the event this year, and 65 children joined in the fun with their chaperones bringing the total number of participants up to 137!

The event kicked off with a Christmas-themed round of bingo, with the winners taking home fun party favors like bubble wands and glow slime (you’ve gotta have slime!). Santa made his grand appearance after bingo, and took a Polaroid portrait with each family. There were plenty of treats to eat, including a cookie decorating station where each child picked out their own large sugar cookie to decorate with colored frosting and sprinkles — right before devouring them, of course.
Santa closed out the celebrating with a rolling cart loaded with toys, which were wrapped by Santa’s helpers: the dads of SCI. A big thanks to all of the SCI staff and AICs who made this a magical event for the attending kids.
