Powder River Gives Back Through Gift Bags

Tracy Trump delivers donations to DHS

Adults in custody (AICs) housed at Powder River Correctional Facility (PRCF) raised over $1,300 this year for the institution’s Annual “Gift Bag/Give Back” event, which provides personal hygiene items, clothing, and gift cards to individuals in crisis in Baker City and the surrounding community. PRCF partnered with the local Sheriff’s Department to purchase Subway, McDonald’s, and Albertson’s gift cards for deputies to hand out to those in need. The donated cards included an attached note stating they were provided by an AIC at Powder River.

All of the following agencies received donations this year:

  • Oregon Department of Human Services
  • Rachel Pregnancy Center
  • New Directions NW Men’s Program
  • New Directions NW Women’s Program
  • PRCF Children’s Visiting Room

Tracy Trump, New Directions NW Counselor, facilitated the fundraising efforts this year and delivered all of the items herself. Tracy expressed how it is “such a humbling experience to be able to give back to the community,” and thanked the AICs for their generosity and willingness to give back to their community.

This is the 3rd year for the “Gift Bag/Give Back” program and it has been so successful that the plan is to change the name to “Community Give Back” so that it can reach more people in the community and not be limited to “gift bags.”
